Tiger Cub Program
Changes:
The
Tiger program has changed significantly this year. Here are some
general highlights for Tigers:

Tigers
are now officially in Dens with Den Leaders who coordinate the shared
leadership. The Den Leaders are members of the Pack Committee.

Tiger
Cubs still participate with an adult partner, and those adult partners
share leadership in the Tiger Cub den with the Tiger Cub Den Leader.

Tiger
Cubs still wear an orange uniform shirt, as do adult partners. The
Tiger Den Leader is expected to wear the tan adult uniform shirt.

The
Tiger hat is now blue and orange.

The
new Tiger Cub Handbook is available; however, Pack 631 has already
purchased books for all the new Tiger/adult teams. We will distribute
ASAP.

The
Cub Scout Leader Book (No. 33221A) has been updated to reflect the changes
to the Tiger Cub program.

They
earn the new "Tiger Cub Badge," rank (it's a diamond that goes
where the old Webelos badge used to go).
Last year's Tigers are the last to earn the Tiger strip worn on the right
pocket. They now have to complete 5 requirements to earn the rank;
each requirement consists of 3 parts: a den activity, a family activity,
and a "Go See It". The badges are presented at Pack
meetings.

The
old Belt Totems have been replaced with new Totems, which are used for
elective recognition (similar to arrow points used with Wolf and Bear
Cubs). After completing the Tiger Cub rank, the boys will wear the
rank on the Totem. Boys may also earn one Tiger Track bead for every
10 electives completed. There is no limit to the number of beads a boy
can earn, and he can start earning the beads right away (they just can't be
worn until the boy earns the rank). Beads should be presented at Den
meetings.

There
is Tiger Cub specific training offered at the District level (the next one
is 9/8/01 at 8:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Quebec, north of
County Line; pre-registration can be done at the Council office, walk-ins
are accepted).

There
are some changes to the WEBELOS uniform as a result of the Tiger changes,
but the overall WEBELOS program remains the same.

The Purpose of
Tiger Cubs
One
of the goals of Tiger Cubs, BSA, is to provide an introduction to scouting
for both the boy and his adult team member, without it being regular Cub
Scouting activities. It provides a chance for Scouting to explain some
of it's goals and ideals to both the boys and
adults. Through this program, Tiger Cubs, BSA, will inform parents and
adults about Scouting with the anticipated result that more of them will be
interested in becoming Scouting volunteers.
However,
we stress that at no time should any Tiger Cub adult team member be asked to
take on a Cub Scout or Boy Scout job until after the graduation of the boy
from Tiger Cubs. Tiger Cubs, BSA, is meant to be a special activity for
both the boy and the adult.
