When:             Saturday, July 19, 2003  from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Where:            Meet at Larkspur Elementary school parking lot at 1:00 pm.  We will leave the lot at 1:15 pm sharp to caravan to the hike.

The Trail:      Palmer Lake is the beginning of the 14-mile Santa Fe Regional Trail. The trail is one of the largest continuous trails in El Paso County, running south through Monument to the southern boundary of the Air Force Academy. The trail route following the abandoned Atkinson, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad right-of-way. The trail is about six feet wide and graveled and supports a wide variety of activities. Biking, hiking and horseback riding are all allowed on the trail.

Directions:     Parking areas are located at: the Palmer Lake Trailhead near County Line Road and Highway 105, near the Highway 105 and Washington Street intersection in Monument; east of the Third Street and Jefferson Street intersection in Monument.

Miscellaneous:          An adult member of the family, or specified guardian, must accompany the Scout on the hike.    Each Scout must turn in a completed and signed permission slip (below) to the Hikemaster on the day of the hike, before we leave the trailhead.  Be prepared for changing weather conditions and dress appropriately.  Bring your own water, trail snacks, sunscreen, hat, camera, fun attitude, etc...

Bad Weather Decision:        We try to hike regardless of the weather - rain, snow, wind or shine!  Only if we feel we would endanger the Scouts will we cancel the hike.  If there is any question that the hike will go as scheduled, you may call Rob Malsch 303-681-2653 by 12:00 noon on Saturday; otherwise, plan to meet at the school.
